SWISS ARMY KNIFE
Scissors in your pocket. And you can run with them. A saw. A can opener for weird cans. A bottle opener for bottle caps that don’t twist off. A knife and then a smaller one. And a whole bunch of stuff for who knows what. Useful around a campfire, terrible in your pocket at the airport as you slowly thread toward the TSA check. A significant upgrade from the previous multi-purpose tool. Except for crushing and grinding.

Surprise! It’s named after its inventor, not because it works a leather surface with aplomb. Tim Leatherman. You can check it out. He’s got a whole family of these things for one purpose or another. He’d die if he read that. Correction. For several purposes or several others. (Eckk.) A terrific tool and a compact assemblage of pretty much everything you can find in the Home Depot tool center. Still, and luckily, no batteries required.

The electronic version of what precedes it. Any damned thing you can think of smashed atomically into a comfortable hand held do-every-thing-pretty-darned-well device. Even a koi pond, I kid you not.
